- Kevin Maines - "We Don't Have A Prayer"

Fifteen die in Columbine
Five more lost in Arkansas
Who would've believed
We'd read headlines like these?
Did you ever think you'd see the day
When schools denied the right to pray?
But it has been declared
That we don't have a prayer

Some were mad, most were sad
As they watched TV in disbelief
When they rolled God's words away
In Montgomery that day
It amazes me how just a few
Made that choice for me and you
And if we take that as fair
Then we don't have a prayer

We did more than separate
The churches from the state
When we took it on ourselves
To put God in His place
I guess somewhere we forgot
That we're one nation under God
Heaven help us if we're not
Cause we don't have a prayer

It's been denied and pushed aside
Just how long can this go on?
Til we've convinced ourselves
That we don't need his help
Well I hope we never go so far
That he's out of mind and out of heart
Cause if we don't have Him there
Then we don't have a prayer

We did more than separate
The churches from the state
When we took it on ourselves
To put God in His place
I guess somewhere we forgot
That we're one nation under God
Heaven help us if we're not
Cause we don't have a prayer

I guess somewhere we forgot
We're one nation under God
Heaven help us if we're not
Cause we don't have a prayer

Heaven help us if we're not
Cause we don't have a prayer
