NASHVILLE UNDERGROUND: ROCKS SAMPLER SERIES VOLUME FOUR

"NASHVILLE UNDERGROUND is so much more than a record label.  It's a philosophy, a state of mind, a collection of images, words and music that captures the creative energy of one of the world's most unique talent communities."

It is always great to see songwriters getting their deserved time in the spotlight.  The best thing about the Nashville Underground samplers is seeing huge hits stripped down to the originals.

The top group of songwriters in the country music industry no doubt lies within the Nashville Underground bunch.  After one look at the songs composed by those within NU, you will see that the most talented, dedicated and successful songwriters are composed on this label, Nashville Underground Record Collective.

Nashville Underground Sampler four couldn't have started any better.  I've been a supporter of Jeffrey Steele's music for quite some time now.  Steele singing "These Days" just shows how great of a songwriter and artist he is.  Steele is such a powerful songwriter and in my opinion one of the best, if not the best songwriter in Nashville.  His songs are everywhere and you can find them on albums by the best artists in country music.  Although Steele hasn't been able to break out as an artist just yet, his songwriting talents are undeniable.  It's always nice to hear a Steele song on the radio, but I must admit, it'd be even better if Steele was singing his own hits.

Darrell Scott's version of "Long Time Gone" impressed me the most (after Steele) on this sampler.  I like his raw vocals and the song sounds really, really good.  I wasn't sure how "Long Time Gone" would sound from a male perspective, but it is actually right up there with the Dixie Chicks version.  Scott has a lot of talent, both as an artist and songwriter.  "River Take Me" also by Scott is another song that shows just how talented he is.

Rivers Rutherford's version of "Real Good Man" is another highlight from Sampler Four.  Rutherford is another one of those songwriters that should have success as an "artist" in addition to his songwriting career.  Rutherford has this "rough" tone to his voice and fans always seem to enjoy this feature on artists.

I really enjoy the 'Nashville Underground' samplers.  They are different, unique and show a lot of the "songs" original character that sometimes gets left out when other artists try to replicate it.

The 'Nashville Underground' bio says it all: "NASHVILLE UNDERGROUND is so much more than a record label.  It's a philosophy, a state of mind, a collection of images, words and music that captures the creative energy of one of the world's most unique talent communities." I have yet to find a group of songwriter's with a better track record than those in Nashville Underground.  They are completely the lead runners in the songwriter world and the images they create through their lyrics and music only strengthens their strong position in the music community. - Janelle Landauer
