Blues and Rock Mix With An Acoustic Undercurrent On william Hart Strecker's Recent Release "Smoke and Clouds"
When it comes to musical credibility, that of singer/guitarist/songwriter William Hart Strecker is pretty hard to top. Strecker spent much of the ‘70s and ‘80s touring the world with such acts as New Hope, Zanzibar and the Bill Strecker Band, sharing the stage with the likes of Jaco Pastorious, Steve Goodman, and Richie Havens, and working with legendary manager Albert Grossman (Bob Dylan, Todd Rundgren). Bill also performed with Asleep At The Wheel, Pure Prairie League, Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen with Nicolette Larson, The Buddy Miller Band, and the Dixie Diesels, an Austin, TX band fronted by Shawn Colvin.
But on a fateful day in October of 1998, Strecker was involved in a horrific car accident, when his Land Cruiser skidded off the road and hit a tree. Twenty days later, Strecker awoke from a coma in a hospital, but had suffered broken bones, a destroyed lung and other internal injuries. He was unable to walk, or eat, or talk, and a long stretch of physical therapy lay ahead.
Never one to back down, Strecker came away from the experience energized and inspired to continue writing, recording, and performing. Soon after, a union with Curb Records was established, in which Bill and his songwriting partner, Chris Eminizer, are in the process of having many of their songs covered by a number of Curb artists.
“…smart songs, tempered by living and still leavened by dreams. They’re folk, rock and country, and they’re a welcome breeze for anyone who simply enjoys a good record." - David Hinckley, NY Daily News
